BRIEF HISTORY & TIMELINE
2015: The EJ Forum met with EPA Administration to share concerns and recommendations on the EPA’s proposed Clean Power Plan and Ozone Standards.
2014: In collaboration with Congressman Ellison and Grijalva, the EJ Forum spearheaded House Res. 479: Recognizing the 20th Anniversary of the Executive Order 12898 on Environmental Justice. Provided climate justice media kit to Congressional members and staffers to support a renewed focus on EJ.
2013: Initiated” Close the Gap” campaign to ensure the President’s Climate Action Plan made EJ a priority.
Met with EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson and senior advisory officials to discuss the EPA’s transition plan and Forum priorities. Forum members continued to work on various federal climate and clean air policies.
2012: Forum members held face-to-face meeting with the White House Council on Environmental Quality and the Administrator of the EPA’s Office of Air and Radiation to discuss environmental justice local, state and federal issues and concerns. Forum members engaged in multiple federal policy initiatives related to air quality, climate change and agency operations.
2011: The EJ Forum convened a roundtable with federal agency representatives on Climate Change in Arlington, VA. Published a subsequent work on Climate Change and Public Health
2010: Forum meeting convened at the American Public Health Association Conference in Denver, Colorado
2009: WE ACT and The EJ Forum hosted the “Advancing Climate Justice: Transforming the Economy, Public Health and Our Environment” at Fordham Law School in New York City. This was the first national meeting on climate justice that brought together environmental justice advocates and mainstream environmental groups to discuss climate change issues.
2008: Initial meeting of what would become the EJ Forum environmental justice organizations, convened during a retreat to develop a response to proposed Climate legislation around the Cap and Trade program. Developed Climate Justice Principles to guide the work of the Forum and other organizations
